I thought a #plasticfree shopping guide for the Mackay area might be useful for those who have just signed up to Plastic Free July.
Plastic Free July is a great opportunity to investigate alternatives to single use plastic. And even if you don’t go completely plastic free it’s worth trying to eliminate the top four for the month – plastic water bottles, takeaway coffee cups, straws & plastic bags.

SOUL Food Market has nuts, seeds, flours, oils, syrups, sugars in bulk – you can use paper bags or bring your own jars and containers to fill.
Fleabags have the most beautiful woven market bags and baskets. Check out their FB page for info on the markets that they will be at in July.
Mifsud’s Fresh Fruit Barn have loose salad leaves that you can put in your own reusable produce bags (@fleabagstore sells these too or you can make your own out of old lace curtains) They also have a great range of fruit and veg.
Nextra Gifts Mt Pleasant are selling Frank Green reusable coffee cups.
Mackay has just started a Boomerang Bags Mackay group. This is a great initiative if you forget your reusable bags, you can borrow and bring the bags back next time!
According to the Responsible Cafes website, you will receive a discount on your coffee if you bring your own reusable coffee cup to Incredable Edibles and Donut Empire Mackay
